Feminist Right to the City:

Understanding Gendered Mobility in Karachi

Zainab will talk about Karachi and its relation to gendered mobility through the lens of intersectionality. She explores the concept of a feminist city, probing how women navigate the city differently through the use of public transport, particularly rikshaws in Karachi.

Her research maps their community patterns and behaviors with the intention of uncovering the unspoken communal practices that reveal how pockets of feminist cities are enacted in here and now. To broaden our understanding of gendered commute and acts of everyday resistance, Zainab questions the standard ways of communication and navigation design in urban spaces.
